About Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, more commonly referred to as simply SIUE, is a public university located in Edwardsville, which is the county seat of Madison County, and the 3rd oldest city in the US state of Illinois, with a population of more than 24 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2005 census. The city is part of Southern Illinois, the Metro-East region and the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area.

SIUE first started as an extension of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and according to the 2010 US News rankings, grew today into one of the top 15 public universities in the Midwest-Master's category, being ranked so for the 3rd consecutive year, also being placed on the top one-3rd of all public and private Midwestern universities. SIU Edwardsville is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), among other, being one of the few 15% business schools worldwide, which are accredited by the AACSB and the only one in the St. Louis area to be accredited as such.

The athletic teams from SIUE are known as the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, who, since 2007, compete in the NCAA’s Division I Ohio Valley Conference, previously competing in Division II as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). SIUE has a total of 16 varsity sports teams (8 men’s and 8 women’s), including in baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and wrestling (NCWA).
